This Level 2 construction programme is designed for learners aiming to develop skilled trade expertise while gaining practical experience in real-world environments. It combines foundation knowledge with hands-on practice, preparing participants for successful careers across the construction and property maintenance sectors.
The course covers essential trade skills such as bricklaying, joinery, wall and floor tiling, carpentry, plastering, painting & decorating, plumbing, and electrical installation. Health and safety is a key component, including preparation for the CSCS Skilled Worker Card, along with employability training in CV writing, interview techniques, teamwork, and communication.
Learners also benefit from a 30-hour industry placement, enhancing practical experience and workplace readiness. Successful completion opens pathways into trainee or operative roles with contractors, local authorities, refurbishment companies, and specialist trade employers.
The Level 2 programme combines classroom learning, practical workshops, and on-site placement. Core units include health and safety, trade-specific practical skills, and employability development.
Learners choose a Skilled Worker Pathway: Bricklaying & Joinery, Wall & Floor Tiling, Carpentry Fundamentals, Plastering & Painting/Decorating, or Plumbing & Electrical. The course also includes a 30-hour industry placement to consolidate practical experience. Optional qualifications include Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Bricklaying) and Level 2 Certificate for Plaster Skimming.
Applicants should have completed Level 1 construction training or demonstrate equivalent practical experience. Learners must be aged 19 or over, have the right to work in the UK, and possess a basic level of English. A short interview and assessment ensure suitability for the chosen pathway. No prior industry experience is strictly required, making the programme suitable for career changers or upskilling existing workers.
